Week 5, July 17, 2008 Combat Bass Fishing™ Weekly Newsletter
Publish date: 7/17/2008
As the FLW pro's fished last weekend, you could already see a slow down in the action.  By early this week, anglers have really been frustrated with small fish or no fish at all.  There are a couple of hot zones with steady action that are good to know and a slow zone that could serve up tournament winning fish over the course of the day.  The summer bite has also set in and bait color selection has become critical.  Miss this issue and you might miss the bite.$9.99 Combat Week 5

Week 6, July 24, 2008 Combat Bass Fishing™ Weekly Newsletter
Publish date: 7/24/2008
The summer movement of smallmouth seems to have stalled and this has caused many anglers to be frustrated by catching large numbers of small fish on their spots.  There are three key areas in the Lake that are fishing stronger than the rest included in this issue.  This issue covers the U.S., Canada and Walpole water.  Also see what stage the weed growth is in and what that means as far as bass location goes.

Week 1, June 15, 2007 Combat Bass Fishing™ Weekly Newsletter
Publish date: 6/15/2007
An uncharacteristic post-spawn bite will greet us on this U.S. opener on Lake St. Clair.  This changes up many of the seasonal patterns that we are used to.  Tournament anglers will also be launching in big numbers forcing some heavy competition for the best water.  Mix in the mayfly hatch and there are a lot of variables to keep track of.  This issue of the CF newsletter gives you a solid overview of what the bass are doing in U.S. water this week.  $9.99 Combat Week 1

Week 2, June 21, 2007 Combat Bass Fishing™ Weekly Newsletter
Publish date: 6/21/2007
Post-spawn feeding has begun.  We are seeing this in various stages around the Lake with the South Shore fish still trying to fatten up and the bass further north fuller and heavier.  A whole crawfish was deposited at my feet by a sub-legal bass and I have a picture of it in this issue.  There are some signs of early summer pattern too.  Some bait and color specifics covered in this issue.  This issue has good coverage of the head of the Detroit River, some South Shore and good U.S. coverage.
  $9.99 Combat Week 2

Week 3, June 28, 2007 Combat Bass Fishing™ Weekly Newsletter
Publish date: 6/28/2007
Bass have snapped out of their early season patterns and early summer patterns are beginning to develop.  That means what was working, might not work now but new patterns are giving up large #’s.  A solid largemouth bite has settled in the Channels and there are some early summer river patterns, but they are fishing very tight.  Both presentation and bait selection are critical to target these fish.  A cold front is due through Wednesday to Thursday so that will force some adjustments for the weekend.

  Combat Week 3

Week 4, July 5, 2007 Combat Fishing™ Weekly Newsletter
Publish date: 7/5/2007
Summer patterns are running strong now as the smallies begin to settle into the river and deep lake zones.  If you look for fish where they were, you might not find them.  Color selection on baits is becoming critical.  Some presentations are doing much better than others.  Some big tournaments are hitting the area so competition for tight spots is heating up.  Stay on top of these changes with the CF Weekly newsletter.
$9.99 Combat Week 4

Week 5, July 12, 2007 Combat Bass Fishing™ Weekly Newsletter
Publish date: 7/12/2007
3 to 4 lb. smallies were easy pickings this week as we ran across the staging zone in front of the Channel system.  The nature of the structure lends itself to a variety of bait presentations and spot selection.  Although the fishing can be easy here, getting on the big and fast action can be the difference of a small adjustment.  Some Channel fish are active too.
$9.99 Combat Week 5

Week 6, July 19, 2007 Combat Bass Fishing™ Weekly Newsletter
Most tournaments launched in Lake St. Clair will be won by fish brought back from the St. Clair River and Lake Huron from here on out.  This issue focuses on bass in the North, Middle and South Channels and the St. Clair River up to Fawn Island.  There are a few Lake items in there as well.  Find out how to get maximum production out of your drifting patterns during the early stages as this bite develops. $9.99 Combat Week 6

Week 7, July 26, 2007 Combat Bass Fishing
™ Weekly Newsletter
If you’re a U.S. side, Tuesday night angler or need a couple of quality keepers on the way in to the launch, this issue covers an area close to both Harley Ensign and Metro launches.  There is some discussion about what the FLW anglers were fishing as well as some follow-up to last weeks Channel spots and how they were fished.  The Canada coverage includes the Stakes in front of the Bassett and the Johnston, the Belle Hump and a couple of Walpole spots. $9.99 Combat Week 7

Week 9, August 9, 2007 Combat Bass Fishing ™ Weekly Newsletter
The St. Clair River has come alive and tournament weights of 24 lbs. or better are needed to top out the competition.  The difference between getting the big bite or just coming back with a 20 lb. sack can come down to small adjustments.  This issue has a featured section about how to identify the best spots to fish in the river.  I’m giving away my Smallmouth Insider™ research techniques so you can go out there and bring back the biggest sack of smallies the St. Clair River can offer. $9.99 Combat Week 9

Week 10, August 16, 2007 Combat Bass Fishing ™ Weekly Newsletter
It’s getting to be that 4 lb. smallies are getting pretty common.  If you’re a tournament angler, that average is the least you should shoot for.  In the Lake or the River, big fish are being served up and there are two spots highlighted in this issue that are holding some big ones.  If you’re looking to dial in on what type of strategy to use in the river or the channels in the St. Clair River, this issue will help.  Coverage goes from the St. Clair light up to the St. Clair Middle Grounds.  Bonus:  Free issue of the Combat Fishing Monthly newsletter comes with this issue. $9.99 Combat Week 10

Week 12, August 30, 2007
Combat Bass Fishing ™ Weekly Newsletter
Things cooled off a lot in the river system and anglers are beginning to look elsewhere.  I dedicated my time this week to looking over the Lake and I was surprised at what I found.  In two different parts of the Lake we caught 5 lb. smallmouth.  One was 5.0 lbs. and the other, 4 lbs. 15 oz.  With that came some Lake bites that were both consistent in bite and pattern.  The fish pushed us into certain color selections but there is some upgrade possibilities in bait selection that would be good to know.  $9.99 Combat Week 12

Week 13, September 6, 2007 Combat Bass Fishing
™ Weekly Newsletter
Coverage goes from above Stag Island to around the main body of Lake St. Clair.  Since there has been a big shift in the bite, knowing whether to make the long run can really help this week.  One huge bait pattern was uncovered and the best spot in the Lake this week was in Canadian water, and quite a surprise.  How is the change in seasonal conditions affecting the weed growth, bite and fish position.  This issue addresses this and more. $9.99 Combat Week 13

Week 15, September 20, 2007 Combat Bass Fishing
™ Weekly Newsletter
The Channel system is the winner again this week.  High winds prevented us from venturing out into the Lake on the official research day so most of the coverage is there.  The best fish I got over the weekend though came from the Lake.  There have been good reports from Canada as well.  Bait selection is tightening up as some bait presentations have been loosening up.  Conditions are changing fast and you can stay on top of it with this issue. $9.99 Combat Week 15

Week 16, September 27, 2007 Combat Bass Fishing ™ Weekly Newsletter
This is the final week of the newsletter and if you’re searching for fish, it could be one of the more important issues to read.  There has been a pretty strong redistribution of fish you will want to know about and some of the classic September spots have turned on.  River fish are running hot and cold.  Don’t forget to check the Combat Fishing Extended Notes for more last minute info.  $9.99 Combat Week 16

Combat Fishing Newsletter Week 16, 2006
Publish date: 9/28/2006
A strong fall pattern in the Lake developed this week and rivaled the quality of fish that we have been getting in the river this year.  This pattern is easy to fish and the smallies have been very aggressive.  The bite in the river is spotty but there are some important elements to key on.  Water quality is becoming a big issue.  $9.99  Combat Week 16

Combat Fishing Newsletter Week 15, 2006

The leading edge of fall pattern fishing is coming on and even though it is an improvement over the last couple of weeks, there are ways to handle it.  Some presentation and bait choices along with being attentive to your logistics can be the difference in a good day, or a great day.  One popular spring spot is already back on for the fall.  $9.99  Combat Week 15

Combat Fishing Newsletter Week 14, 2006
Publish date: 9/14/2006
We find ourselves in a creeping fall pattern that hasn't fully developed yet.  This brings up some important strategies for putting a big weight on the scales this week.  The change in weather also brings with it some changes in baits and presentations.  I had a research day weight of about 18 pounds with a 4.4 lb. and a 4.8 lb. smallmouth in that bag.  $9.99  Combat Week 14

Combat Fishing Newsletter Week 13, 2006

Combat Fishing Newsletter Week 12, 2006

If there was a suggestion of fall pattern fishing last week, this week left no doubt.  Bass that have been in established patterns for months are now off to re-establish a fall pattern bite.  This can leave anglers in an adjustment period where it can take a while to find them again.  Find them faster with this edition of the Combat Bass Fishing newsletter.  $9.99 Combat Week 12

It's no secret that the St. Clair River holds winning weights but you can spend a lot of time looking, and less catching without this issue.  Depth is critical here and you may not have to make the long run to make it in the money.  Some of the bait selections might surprise you.  $9.99 Combat Week 10

Combat Fishing Newsletter Week 9, 2006
Publish date: 8/10/2006
Cold front conditions came in early this week and will hit us one more time before the weekend.  This has throttled the bite back temporarily.  This week's report deals with how to plan a strategy to handle the changing conditions as well as some comprehensive Channel coverage.  Included is a separate section for largemouth on the U.S. side.  $9.99 Combat Week 9

Combat Fishing Newsletter Week 8, 2006
Publish date: 8/03/2006
This week we concentrated on the South Shore and came up with some very interesting patterns around the Belle Hump, Askin's Point and the Windmill Point flat.  15 lb. sacks still abound around the Lake but it took 20 lbs. to make the top 5 in a Saturday tournament.  $9.99  Combat Week 8

Combat Fishing Newsletter Week 7, 2006
Publish date: 7/27/2006
Three pound averages continue to come in this week.  On a Sunday tournament it took 22 lbs. to win at an NBAA tournament as well.  This signals the beginning of the big bite in the St. Clair River.  This issue deals with river spots plus some Lake coverage in the upper part of Lake St. Clair.  $9.99  Combat Week 7

Combat Fishing Newsletter Week 6, 2006
Publish date: 7/20/2006
This week there are a lot of 3 pound averages to be found everywhere you go.  Good weights are coming out of the U.S. and Canada.  Now that we are into a full blown summer pattern, areas and spots are setting up well and the stable weather is contributing to a consistent bite.  This issue has no St. Clair River coverage but some Channel and a lot of Lake coverage. $9.99  Combat Week 6

Combat Fishing Newsletter Week 5, 2006
Publish date: 7/13/2006
Staying put on a “hot zone” will likely be the best strategy this week. In each one of these areas, the upgrade potential is good to excellent. 20 lb. averages from the Lake are not only likely, but happening. It all hinges on using the time working a spot to educate ones self as to the best big fish presentation to use.

Combat Fishing Newsletter Week 5, 2005
Lake St. Clair, Combat Fishing Friday Edition #5, July 15, 2005. This weeks Spot on the Spot feature is a rock field on a 12 foot hump in the middle of the Lake.  This area is underfished as most anglers prefer to fish along shoreline structure.  The rock field is a one boat spot but was loaded with smallies on our trip this week.  Walpole Island spots continue to produce tournament winning stringers.  There is a big difference in how the Lake is fishing as compared with the St. Clair River.  Upper Detroit River spots are turning on.  One of the best areas that is heating up is only a couple of miles away from the Harley Ensign DNR launch.  Canada spots in the upper part of the Lake are still producing strong average limits of fish. Includes a GPS coordinate!  $9.99   Combat Week 5

Pre-Fishing Edition Week 6, 2005
Lake St. Clair, Combat Fishing Pre-Fishing Edition #6, July 21, 2005.  Big fish movements this week make it hard to find the fish where we have been used to hitting them.  Deep transition points are a key.  Bait selection is getting even more critical for the bigger fish.  One of the big decisions is to sit on a spot, or to run & gun.  How to approach deep water fish.  River spots are turning on so I cover a couple of high percentages strategies for getting the most out of each spot.  $5.99  Pre-Fish Week 6

Combat Fishing Newsletter Week 6, 2005
Lake St. Clair, Combat Fishing Friday Edition #6, July 22, 2005.  I’m not sure if a largemouth spot has ever made the weekly Spot-on-the-Spot feature but this week there is no doubt.  This channel spot has been putting out largemouth for four weeks now.  More fish are moving into the channel system, but you may have to hit multiple spots to get your five bites.  But the bites have been big.  The Mile Roads have something to offer this week and I cover several spots that have been hot; are they still?  Bait style and presentation are making a difference in putting bigger fish in the boat.  A 3 ½ lb. average is fairly easy to get right now.  Includes a GPS coordinate! $9.99  Combat Week 6

Pre-Fishing Edition Week 7, 2005
Lake St. Clair, Combat Fishing Pre-Fishing Edition #6, July 28, 2005.  Where is the big bite right now?  Anglers are picking up good fish everywhere, but the strongest population of big fish are found in tight angling patterns.  The type of bait you are using can make all the difference right now.  What type of weight are you going to need to win on Lake St. Clair?  There’s a big algae bloom out there right now.  Does it really matter?  $5.99  Pre-Fish Week 7

Combat Fishing Newsletter Week 7, 2005
Lake St. Clair, Combat Fishing Friday Edition #7, July 29, 2005.  A St. Clair Cutoff channel marker is once again a Spot-on-the-Spot.  The Cutoff started loading up with fish last week and the trend continues.  Water temps are always listed on the back of the newsletter, but wait until you see these.  There is a big algae bloom out there.  A Detroit River spot was cooled off this week but some St. Clair River spots are turning on.  Some interesting things are happening at the Belle River Hump and there is some solid coverage on the best baits for big fish…and more!  Includes a GPS coordinate! $9.99  Combat Week 7

Pre-Fishing Edition Week 8, 2005
Lake St. Clair, Combat Fishing Pre-Fishing Edition #8, August 4, 2005.  Summer can be a time where the Lake and river systems become hard to read.  The river is fishing strong but success has a lot to do with how you approach various spots.  There is a discussion of what to look for when approaching river structure, and how to put the percentages in your favor. This issue also deals with a weed growth surprise for 2005. Upcoming tournaments, tournament results and more… $5.99  Pre-Fish Week 8

Combat Fishing Newsletter Week 8, 2005
Lake St. Clair, Combat Fishing Friday Edition #8, August 5, 2005.  The St. Clair River is putting on a great show, and it’s only the beginning.  The Spot-on-the-Spot is a river spot that is fishing slow, but heavy.  Many tournaments are being won by anglers who will make the trip up the river.  Lake areas are doing OK, but you really need to know where to go.  Some of the latest hot spots have cooled off, but things are shaping up for some of the traditional August and September spots.  One river spot produced a 4.2 lb. smallie and a 3.3 lb. smallie in 15 minutes of work, then we left. Includes a GPS coordinate! $9.99  Combat Week 8
